Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a vet referral?

In reality all behaviourists that are qualified and accredited are required to work via vet referral. Being accredited with the top organisations in our industry requires us to get a vet referral in order to be associated with them. It maintains a high standard of service and allows communication between us and your vet. It also avoids you going through a lot of training and spending money, when perhaps the issue is actually an easy medical fix. This saves time and money on your part and means you are more likely to be able to claim via your insurance.

What is a vet referral?

It is an agreement between me, you and your vet, to say that we can all communicate with each other. I can see your dogs vet history and it means that I can speak directly with your vet if there are any concerns about your dogs health that may impact their behaviour. It's a document that I send you to fill in and sign, and then you take to the vet to sign. Then you send it back to me.

What is your training ethos?

My training ethos is ultimately relationship based. I make sure that I am well informed on current science, and it is what motivates me to write my blog for other professionals (4DogProfessionals). I will never recommend equipment or give advice that causes harm to your pet. My ethical and moral standpoint on using aversive methods be that harsh handling or punishment is that they are not necessary and are outdated. We can talk about this if you have further questions.

I don't know if it's training or behaviour, what happens then?

That's why it's good to contact me. I will never push you towards a service you don't need, so don't be afraid to ask what I think. On the homepage, there is also a neat info-graphic that helps you know the type of things that fall into each category. Still not sure, just drop me a line and we can have a chat.

You're out of my area, can I book  a remote consultation?

Of course. There are some options for out of area training: a) Have a look at my courses selection, and see if there is one that is relevant to your training need; b) Drop me a line and I can always look over videos and provide feedback at a reduced rate. Just get in touch and we can talk about it.

We have finished our consult and I've received your report, what happens next?

Don't worry. We will always make a next steps plan of action before we finish the consult. And don't forget I'm only down the end of the phone. If you find that you are in urgent support, call me or book a call.
