Why does walking our reactive dog get us down so much?

Why does walking our reactive dog get us down so much.

Well, our dogs are very emotional creatures. They have feelings just like you and me, they can feel worried, scared, threatened, unsafe, and then they react accordingly.

This can be screaming, barking, avoiding, growling and really showing us they want to get away from something.

On the flip side of this... they are also capable of feeling frustrated, excited, eager, and they react to this accordingly too.

They might be trying to close distance, drag you, pull you, screaming and barking all the while.

It's important to note that this behaviour doesn't always mean they want to meet the person or dog they are interested in.

So why does this have such an effect on us?

Well maybe because we care so much.

We want our dogs to be there with us: To walk with us, to grow old with us, to chill out on the sofa with us.

And then we end up in that harsh and stark reality where our dog can't go to all the places with us, can't do the things and can't just even leave the house like a "normal dog".

And then there's those times when we give them everything and they decide that they either don't like it, can't cope with it, or are not ready. Or they just don't respond in the way we hope they will.

Well...This is the main problem with having invested so much of ourselves in the creature that we want to be our best friend.

We want that magic answer that is going to make everything better for us and your dog.

So how do we begin to turn this tragic scene around?
